Social and Cultural Activities
These activities invite students to experience the local color of Spain and to enhance their education. The T&E staff develops unique cultural activities in order to maximize cultural immersion.
Homestays with local families, excursions to sites of historical, cultural, and ecological interest, conversation sessions with Spanish students, program orientations, tastings of regional cuisine, and various other social and cultural activities all work to reinforce the material that the students learn through a broad range of classes across multiple academic disciplines.
Excursions
Ground transportation, entrance fees, and guided tours are included on all T&E excursions. Hotel accommodations and breakfast are included on all overnight excursions. We will visit Cordoba, El Escorial and Valle de los Caidos, Granada, Leon, Madrid, Segovia and Avila, Seville, or Toledo.
Regularly Scheduled Lectures
On Mondays and Tuesdays art lectures are given from 6 to 7 p.m. and history lectures are given from 7 to 8 p.m. On Wednesdays a literature lecture (Hispanic literature in film) is given from 4 to 5 p.m.
Films
On Mondays at 4 p.m., films from various eras are shown. On Tuesdays at 4 p.m., a film that has recently played in theaters is shown. On Wednesdays at 5 p.m., a film related to the "Hispanic Literature in Film" lectures is shown. On Thursdays at 4 p.m., a Spanish film is shown.
Dance lessons
Salsa lessons on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and Sevillana lessons on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.
Sports
Depending on the weather, on Tuesdays we enjoy playing tennis from 4 pm to 6 p.m. Rackets and balls are provided by the school. In the summer (from June to September), because of the greater influx of students, we play soccer on Wednesdays and basketball on Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m.
City Monuments
An in-depth visit of the city's most important monuments and museums takes place every Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Horseback Riding
On the first or second Friday of every month, from 4 pm to 7 pm., we drive 24 miles outside the city of Salamanca to Picadero Valverde to visit a Spanish bull ranch and ride for an hour. During the summer, we can also swim in the pool.
